Donovan asked me if I would join him at the Royal Albert Hall to play the original version of ‘Sunshine Superman’, as he planned to recreate the Sunshine Superman album with more added textures to the original orchestration by John Cameron. The night was truly memorable, an absolute triumph for Donovan and John Cameron. I put my amp out of the way backstage behind the orchestra so I could turn up without it bleeding into the orchestral balance. I also came on at the end of the show when Sunshine Superman was reprieved with the orchestra, and on ‘Mellow Yellow’ with all the bells and whistles. Well done Donovan!

PAGE & PLANT PLAYED NASHVILLE, TN
No, we didn’t play the Grand Ole Opry, but on the ‘Walking Into Everywhere’ tour Page and Plant walked into the Nashville Arena. This gave us a good opportunity to visit the Noshville Katz Kosher Deli.

I HAD MY LAST RAVE UP IN LA WITH THE YARDBIRDS
This was the last time the four live Yardbirds would play Los Angeles. The intrepid warriors played the Shrine Auditorium on this day in 1968. This was not the last date of the US tour, we had two more dates, both at The Montgomery International Speedway in Alabama, before the curtains would close on this incarnation of The Yardbirds in the USA.

LED ZEPPELIN PLAYED AT FILLMORE EAST, NY
On this day in 1969, I played the last night of two shows at the Fillmore East in New York, and the last night of that leg of touring in the US with Led Zeppelin.
We went back to England and continued recording at Morgan Studios. ‘Thank You’ was done at this point and then we did some more dates in England.
We returned on the 3rd July to the US to play the Atlanta Pop Festival a few days later and then continued touring.

Page & Plant played at Tupelo Coliseum, MS
On this day I played at Tupelo, where Elvis was born and raised, when there were no local attractions apart from the cotton fields or getting to Memphis.
When Elvis grew up it must have been pretty bleak but the white and black picked the cotton side by side and the local indigenous music provided the soundtrack to this tough environment and it took the visionary genius of Elvis to blend those musical sources and change the world.

I RECORDED WITH LED ZEPPELIN AT OLYMPIC STUDIO TWO
‘Hey Hey What Can I Do’ — on this recording, I used my own RCA limiter stroke compressor on the guitars.
