ON THIS DAY… 06 SEP 1988
I START THE OUTRIDER TOUR IN ATLANTA, GA

This marked the first date of my first solo tour in the United States primarily. The band comprised of John Miles, vocals and keyboard, Durban Laverde on bass and Jason Bonham on drums. These guys had featured on my Outrider album and we were to feature material from that album and from my past going back to The Yardbirds.
Also on this day in 2008, ‘It Might Get Loud’ premiered at the Ryerson Theatre in Toronto, while in 1968, I arrived in Denmark prior to our first show of the Scandinavian tour for Led Zeppelin.

I ARRIVED IN THE US TO PLAY WITH LED ZEPPELIN

On this day in 1969, I got a passport stamp to enter the US. Led Zeppelin were to play the now famous Atlanta Pop Festival two days later on the 5th, headlined by old drinking pal Janis Joplin. Chuck Berry was in his air-conditioned Cadillac with blacked-out windows in the backstage area. As far as I know he didn’t leave it. We hung out a bit before our spot but left soon after our set. Led Zeppelin’s next date would be the Newport Jazz Festival.

I PLAYED ATLANTA STADIUM WITH LED ZEPPELIN

We opened up the ‘73 US Summer tour in Atlanta at the Fulton County Stadium. It was an open air concert and we had something in the region of 50,000 people. It was truly apparent how the reputation of the group had spread by word of mouth and receptive ears! But what a welcome back to the States this was.
