I PLAYED THE USF SUNDOME IN TAMPA, FLORIDA WITH OUTRIDER
Settling into the Outrider tour, and by this, our third date, the band were playing really well together but these early dates were threatended by hurricanes Florence and Gilbert, with imminent arrival predicted. Here at Tampa, with threat of elemental attack, we played with audience slightly down on the expected turn out. I had played the Atlantic 40th only recently and it wasn’t quite as I had hoped. And this performance may have affected the attendance of early shows along with the hurricane. It didn’t take long for the shows to gain momentum and the venues to start filling, once the word had got out that I was alive and kicking.
DURBAN LAVERDE (BASS), JASON BONHAM (DRUMS), JP (GUITARS), JOHN MILES (VOCALS)

ON THIS DAY… 06 SEP 1988
I START THE OUTRIDER TOUR IN ATLANTA, GA
This marked the first date of my first solo tour in the United States primarily. The band comprised of John Miles, vocals and keyboard, Durban Laverde on bass and Jason Bonham on drums. These guys had featured on my Outrider album and we were to feature material from that album and from my past going back to The Yardbirds.
Also on this day in 2008, ‘It Might Get Loud’ premiered at the Ryerson Theatre in Toronto, while in 1968, I arrived in Denmark prior to our first show of the Scandinavian tour for Led Zeppelin.

Led Zeppelin did a soundcheck for the upcoming concerts over the weekends of the 4th and 11th of August 1979 at Knebworth, England. During the soundcheck, as we were playing ‘Trampled Under Foot’, I turned around to see John Bonham’s son, 13 year old Jason, playing on his father’s kit. This was probably the first time I played with Jason and was certainly not the last! John had gone out the front to hear to hear how his kit sounded through the Knebworth-sized PA.
During the post-O2 period, I had been playing new material with Jason Bonham and John Paul Jones at rehearsal rooms. I was asked to play with the Foo Fighters at Wembley. This was after the Led Zeppelin show at the O2 attended by Dave Grohl.
On this day in 2008, John Paul Jones and I played ‘Ramble On’ and Dave sang with Taylor Hawkins on drums. Then Taylor swapped drums with Dave and he sang ‘Rock and Roll’. Dave Grohl said “You guys should come to the States and record with us”. I didn’t hear anything more from Grohl, and John Paul Jones’ communications seemed to dim. The next I heard, they were promoting their new group.
